Salou (Tarragonès), 9 April 2021. Today, a total of 81 crews have taken the start at Passeig Jaume I in Salou to compete in the 5th edition of the Rally Catalunya Històric. It is the regularity race for classic vehicles, scoring round towards the Catalan Championship, organised by the RACC, in collaboration with the Salou Tourism Board, which will finish tomorrow, Saturday, in the evening.
12 Stages in two Legs
The documentation checks and the scrutineering were carried out in the morning and the afternoon, of this first day of the event, at Passeig Jaume I de Salou. The first leg of the race has started from the same place, and will finish from 21.30h onward, after four regularity stages (45.89 km).
The second leg will start tomorrow, 10 April, and will finish at Passeig Jaume I in Salou as well. On this second day, participants will cover a total of eight regularity stages (101.51 km), with a regrouping in Santa Coloma de Queralt.
The 5th Rally Catalunya Històric, which will include all safety and prevention measures regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, will have a route of 489.55 km, 147.40 of which will be regularity sections, split into 12 stages. The layout includes complete or partial stages used for the RallyRACC, scoring round towards the World Rally Championship, such as Riudecanyes, Duesaigües, La Mussara, Querol and El Montmell.
The Best Specialists
Among the participating crews there is a large representation of the best specialists in classic regularity, including the winners of the first edition of the Rally Catalunya Històric, Carles Miró-Ivan Matavacas (Porsche 911 SC). Also participating in the event will be Antonio Verdaguer-María Jesús Mora (Porsche 944 Turbo), Juan Pedro García-Sergi Giralt (Autobianchi A-112 Abarth), Tere Armadans-Anna Vives (Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2), José Luis Moreno-Isidre Noguera (BMW 320i), amongst many others. A special highlight is the large representation of Seat Coches Históricos, led by Josep Maria Bardolet-Carles Jiménez (Seat 1400 B), and five more.
The participants will be split into three categories: Regularity Super Sport (averages up to 70 km/h), Regularity Sport (averages up to 55 km/h) and Legend FCA (exhibition only).
